What’s in a name?
Gold Coast Indy has not run in Surfers Paradise Gold Coast since 2008.
In 2009 we had SuperGP and 2010 it is renamed Gold Coast 600.
It might be confusing, but regardless of the name, motor sport enthusiasts can expect a great event.
Compacted into 3 days towards the end of October, the carnival has many supporting on and off track entertainment.
Events still focus around the Surfers Paradise precinct and the race track is pretty similar to the Indy race track around Surfers Paradise and Main Beach – just a bit shorter.
Unfortunately, confusion continues with the names, but if the tourism operators and local governments have their say, then there will be Gold Coast motor sport event in October each year.
Last year, in 2009, we had the first year without Indy cars. It was to be called the Surfers Paradise SuperGP – a mix of V8 Super Cars and A1GP cars from Europe.
The A1GP cars pulled out at the last minute and the event ran with a new format for the V8s.

It wasn’t such a big deal for the Australian fans, because on any given weekend around Australia you will often hear the battle between Ford and Holden being enacted over a BBQ and a beer! It is the Australian way.
In 2010 you will see V8 Supercars as the headline races, with lots of supporting races and different classes of cars.
The new format race is called the Armor All Gold Coast 600.
Armor All is the new major sponsor, no more gone are Nikon, Nitro and Lexmark (wow that brings flashbacks).
Trackside accommodation gets booked out early, it’s wise to check out the options early and make sure you really know what you are booking.
