It’s May and the humpback whales are definitely on their way up the East Coast of Australia to the Gold Coast.
Whilst the Gold Coast is not their final destination (they prefer to play up in the Great Barrier Reef ) they still pass by our coast in massive numbers and manage to put on a great show for us.
If you haven’t already seen whales I highly recommend one of the many Gold Coast whale watching cruises. The season usually starts on the weekend closest to the 1st June each year and finishes around the end of October.
This is a very long season and during this time you are most likely to take a tour and see whales.
In fact, the Gold Coast whale watching tour operators are all pretty good and have a back up plan in case you don’t see whales on your tour, so don’t forget to ask them about it!
Make sure you are prepared with video camera, still camera and a spray jacket to protect you from the whale spray.
Have fun and get out there during this whale watching season on the Gold Coast.

So happy to hear the whales are coming. Do you know when Migaloo the white humpback whale will be in Gold Coast?

Some years we get to see Migaloo, others he slips by in the night. Last year they got a good view of him, I think it was in June. I saw in the Gold Coast Bulletin that they were expecting him in July.
