Australian humour at its best!

Aussie’s love to laugh and don’t mind taking a shot at themselves that is for sure. I was sent this by email today and it made me laugh and is a really good example of Australian humour.
It reminds me that our Australian language is english based, but can be totally confusing for people who are not used to our humour and perspective on life in general! Hope you enjoy it whether you are Australian or not!
Let me know if you have any more to add!
This is very topical at the moment becasue the Australian Government is considering an NBN (National Broadband Network) which will enable Australians from all over rural Australia connect to a high speed broadband. It looks like we might need to do a bit of educating!

Where To Eat With Kids In Broadbeach

I was doing my usual surfing today and I came across this blog post from a mum who lives in Brisbane and writes about places to eat that are kid friendly.
My kids are a bit older now, so I don’t have to worry about high chairs and activities so much, though I still have the no tools required “Extreme Eye-Spy” that can be wheeled out in any location at the drop of the “I’m bored” whine.
Back to the blog post. I thought it was a brilliant idea, someone writing about places that were child friendly to eat is such a useful resource for anyone whether you live in a place or are visiting.
Jane found herself on the Gold Coast recently, without kids, but still couldn’t help her parenting eyes from checking out the places she ate with kid blinkers on. Here’s the full blog post, I’ll let Jane walk you through it in her own special style…

Check out the rest of her website as she has lots of great ideas for places in Brisbane. Maybe we can persuade her to give us some more recommendations!

Gold Coast 600 Update

Latest Availability for GC 600 Accommodation
I can hardly believe that the Gold Coast 600 (was Gold Coast Indy or Super GP) is nearly up on us already! We only just finished school holidays in Queensland!
Australian motorsport fans are gearing up for Bathurst this coming weekend which means our event is only just around the corner. With Bathurst on this weekend, I guess the girls and I will have to find something else to do Sunday – hubby will be glued to the TV!
Back to GC600, there are a few interesting developments, including the late Peter Brock’s son, James, is taking part in the Australian Legends category in honour of his late dad at the upcoming event October 22nd to 24th. He’ll be driving one of his dad’s cars. Read the full News story here. The Australian Legends event was a late ring in last year when the A1 GP cars were unable to come to Surfers Paradise from Europe. It was one of the highlights of last year’s event and I think organisers are expecting it to be one this year too.
I didn’t realise that the top 5 placegetters from Indy will be driving at the GC600 which will increase the coverage around the world. This hopefully will help keep Gold Coast top of mind as our city ramps up to bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
For those of you who haven’t organised accommodation yet, there is still some available for the weekend, but it is changing all the time so check out the latest listing here.
If you are around Surfers Paradise and Main Beach in the next few weeks, you will not help but notice the preparations for the big event. As it gets closer it will be harder to move quickly around these areas so make sure you factor in extra travel time so you are not frustrated.

PS: Just found these really interesting articles that I thought I would share.
First one gives more detail about the format for the races and the potential areas of interest and conflict with the new format. I really enjoyed reading it and I am sure you will too: Gold Coast 600 Motor Racing Makeover

Prize Fish in The Broadwater Gold Coast

Get your fishing rod out…. There’s some rather special flatheads to be snagged in the Broadwater this weekend!
As part of the Blue Fin Boats Flathead Classic 10 specially tagged flathead fish have been released in various parts of the Broadwater on the Gold Coast.
By snagging one of the fish on your fishing line, if you are registered in their promotion, you could win $5000 or more if you are in the flathead competition. Don’t forget to check the terms and conditions.
They are a bit hard to spot, as you can see from this photo, but if you snag a flathead that looks a little strange with some extra bling this weekend, you’ll know what it is!

Will Oprah Visit Gold Coast in December?
I think just about the whole world knows that Oprah and 300 of her closest friends are coming to Australia in December!
Who could forget that momentus announcement – poor Oprah probably lost her voice after having to shout over the roar of her audience!
But will Oprah visit Australia’s Gold Coast? If she has seen the latest Queensland Tourism video showcasing Queensland I think Oprah might just be tempted to come visit.
I know I am incredibly biased with it comes to the Gold Coast, but I think an American audience would particularly enjoy the vibrancy of the Gold Coast as it bears a similarity to Florida, America’s own vacation favourite.
In December on the Gold Coast we have awesome beaches, unlike those further north in Queensland that are virtually off limits during the jelly fish season! Can’t imagine Oprah would enjoy a scary encounter with stingy marine animals!
I usually tell people that the Gold Coast is pretty quiet during early December and it is an awesome time to visit, perhaps if Oprah does visit the Gold Coast I may have to put out a travel warning! Oprah is on the Coast! Expect large crowds and lots of screaming!
What fun! Hope she does come… What do you think? Should Oprah visit the Gold Coast when she visits Australia in December?
Does This Make You Want To Visit Queensland Australia?
Queensland Tourism have just launched their new branding to promote Queensland holidays to the world.
The new video lasts one minute and shows many of Queensland’s iconic vacation destinations. Enjoy… and then tell me what you think.
This video and new branding was launched on Tuesday 28th September 2010 by Queensland Premier on the Gold Coast. It seems to me great timing to coincide with Oprah’s visit to Australia in December 2010 as I am sure there will be plenty of visitors from overseas seeking out more information about holidaying in Australia and Queensland.
I am sure it was no co-incidence that it was launched at the Gold Coast, there are plenty of scenes in the video of our fabulous beaches, high rise skyline and awesome attractions!
Leave a comment below and tell me what you think of the video. How does it make you feel? Does it make you want to put Queensland on your bucket list?
I live here and makes me want to get out and enjoy it even more

Tell me what you think.
Melbourne Cup Lunches on Gold Coast 2010

The Melbourne Cup (part of Victorian Racing’s Spring Racing Carnival) will be on us before we know it. This year it will be Tuesday 2 November 2010.
Unless you are really fortunate to be in Melbourne for the race, the next best thing is to go to a Melbourne Cup function. Across the Gold Coast there are several great functions that often feature lunch, plasma TV screens to watch the race, fashion parades, sweepstakes and of course champagne!
Now is the time to get organising your tables and lunches, shopping for your hats and outfits and generally getting organised!
If you don’t know much about the Melbourne Cup, it’s the horse race that stops Australia and a great excuse to dress up, drink champagne and go out to restaurants and hotels in Gold Coast with Melbourne Cup lunches.
If you are interested in going to the big lunches with a group, I recommend you get in soon, because the good do’s fill up quick!
NSW Spring School Holidays September to October 2010

NSW (New South Wales) school holidays start today, Friday 24 September 2010 and run until Monday 11 October.
The Gold Coast enjoys many visitors from NSW during school holidays. Many of our friends from further south like to drive or use the campsites. Roads will be busy starting Friday and running through both the starting weekend and the ending one!
You will see queues to get into camp sites! There is still accommodation available for the holidays. I highly recommend booking before you come to the Gold Coast as you might be disappointed with what you get if you just turn up.
The theme parks and other attractions around the Gold Coast are usually pretty busy. If you buy your tickets and passes before your come to the coast, you can save both time and money. There are some great deals for the Gold Coast theme parks at the moment.
The Gold Coast is likely to be busiest from 24 September through to Monday 4 October as this is when both NSW and Qld schools are on holidays together!
Take care on the roads and enjoy your spring break in the Gold Coast.
Accommodation On Gold Coast Serving Christmas Lunch

There are so many accommodation options on the Gold Coast, yet sometimes it is hard to find exactly what you are looking for.
I was recently asked about where to stay over the Christmas period in the Gold Coast where you could get Christmas Lunch in the restaurant.
Here are three options of accommodation with Christmas lunch. Restaurants are open to both hotel and resort guests as well as those from outside, so now is the time to get organised as they will start filling up fast.
Sea World Resort: Seaworld resort is on the Spit in Main Beach (just up from Palazzo Versace), away from the main hustle and bustle of Surfers Paradise. You can’t miss it at the northern end of Sea World Theme Park and a walk across the road to the Spit beach. Sea World Resort even has its own water park! The resort has a couple of dining options available for Christmas dinner, and a special Christmas lunch is being run in The Shoreline Restaurant. More information and room bookings check out the Sea World Resort Website.
Mantra Legends: Mantra Legends Hotel is in Surfers Paradise. It is reasonably close to the beach and walking distance to main parts of Surfers Paradise. It has very nice facilities. Their Fables Restaurant is hosting a Christmas lunch buffet style including a drinks package and special prices for children.
Crown Towers: Crown Towers is also in Surfers Paradise and a short stroll to the beach and central Surfers Paradise. Crown Towers has fantastic resort facilities and is a fabulous place to base your Christmas holiday on the Gold Coast. Flux Restaurant and Bar which is privately owned but in the resort is planning a fixed menu Christmas lunch with details to be advised shortly.
Interest in bookings at this time have skyrocketed this last week, so highly recommend booking in your Christmas accommodation and lunches very soon.
These are only three options, I will keep you posted as I discover more!
Wet September School Holidays Ideas

The start to these September School Holidays on the Gold Coast has been a little… wet and washed out!
Although, it looks like there will be showers on and off for a few more days there is no need to worry or to think you have to get soaked like this wet dog!
Don’t despair! There are still lots of rainy day activities to do on the Gold Coast. Apart from the obvious, checking out the latest movies at cinemas around the Gold Coast, you can find out the best places to shop in the Gold Coast on rainy days. Some of the shopping centres are outdoor and some are indoor, do you know which one to go to?
Surfers Paradise is a great spot on wet days (or hot days for that matter) as there are lots of indoor attractions in Surfers that are great for all the family.
The Brisbane Festival is on during the first week of Queensland September school holidays, and there are lots of activities going on. However, if it is raining in the Gold Coast there is a good chance it will be raining in Brissy too, so good idea to check ahead to make sure activities are still running.
When it is only a little bit showery, you can sometimes get away with going to the theme parks, be aware that some of the rides close in the wet or windy conditions.
A little rain, can be annoying! There is so much to do on the Gold Coast whether it is great weather or not so great. Have fun and before you know it the sun will be shining again! As I write this, it is trying to peek out from behind the clouds where I am
